Azores - Flores & Corvo islands

 

You will have the opportunity to discover two of the most treasured islands from Azores. Taking time to appreciate nature at its best and breathe the fresh air that blows from the Atlantic Ocean. It’s time to walk ancestral paths that once were the only way to get from one point of the island to another. You will feel that you are in a different era and you will be able to enjoy nature in the most pure way.

 

These remote islands are part of the western group and are protected by the Unesco Biosphere Reserve. All the paths and trails are surrounded by breathtaking views that were sculpted by the force of the volcanoes and the ocean. Take time to appreciate the waterfalls, cliffs and learn about the ancient geological heritage.

 

Embracing the Flores rurality your stay is going to be very special and unique. Take time to appreciate the rural house within a village that has 5 centuries of history. Aldeia da Cuada was built in 1676 and still today you can see that the inhabitants preserve the connection to the past, maintaining the stone houses from the past and giving them all the comfort necessary for an unforgettable stay.


 

Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrive at Flores island, Azores

 

Travelers arrive at Flores island in Azores. 

Getting from the airport to the rural hotel is arranged by taxi.

 

You will have the opportunity to make acquaintance with the island with its beautiful surroundings and explore Aldeia da Cuada.

 

Day 2:  Corvo island

 

Your day starts with a boat trip to the remote island of Corvo, offering you an adventure with stunning landscapes and local legends.

 

You will venture into Corvo’s island captivating volcano crater called Caldeirão do Corvo, taking a walk inside of it. There, the vivid blue lagoons create a breathtaking contrast with the lush native flora. Over time, you will feel the fresh breeze of the ocean and be amazed by its immensity. As you follow the stone paths, you will uncover the history of the island’s inhabitants since early ages. Let yourself be amazed by “Cara do Índio”, a basalt rock formation naturally etched into the cliff. 

 

As the day winds down, you will get to explore Corvo’s historic village, characterized by its traditional wooden locks and basalt houses. The strong sense of community will make you feel like a part of it, as everyone knows their neighbors by heart.

 

After this journey you will return to Flores island by boat.

 

Day 3: from Ponta Delgada to Fajã Grande - Flores island

 

On this day you will have an exciting trekking adventure in the heart of Flores island, from Ponta Delgada to Fajã Grande. The route provides views of the northwest coast of Flores, Corvo and Maria Vaz islet, where the lush green will make you feel embraced by nature.

 

The landscape is characterized by hydrangeas, heather, imposing cedars, brooks and streams and volcanic rock formations. At the end of the day you will have the opportunity to be amazed by the charm of the Ponta de Albernaz lighthouse, the westernmost in Europe.

 

Do not forget your swimming suite, because the refreshing water of the Atlantic Ocean awaits you at the end of the day.

 

Day 4: paradise at Flores island

 

You will embark on an exciting trekking adventure that allows you to experience the island of Flores vibrant flora and its impressive waterways.

 

The trail, adorned with native plant species, offers a striking contrast against the black basalt stone walls of volcanic origin, with Fajãzinha village in the backdrop.

 

You will also encounter the remarkable Poço do Bacalhau waterfall, which cascades from a significant height of 90 meters, leaving an unforgettable impression.

 

Within the Morro Alto Nature Forest Reserve, you will find the famous Lagoa Negra, named after its dark waters resulting from its impressive 110 meters depth.

 

The day could not end with a better surprise. You will come across the Poço da Ribeira do Ferreiro or Alagoinha. This place is surrounded by  a breathtaking native forest , giving rise to small waterfalls that converge into a magnificent and crystal-clear lagoon.

 

Day 5: it is time to leave Flores, Azores

 

No group activities are planned today other than breakfast.

 

You are therefore free to plan your departure from Flores, Azores at your convenience.
